Cloud infrastructure for startups: set up right, scale when needed
Cloud infrastructure for a startup is the hosting, databases, networking, security settings, backups, and monitoring that keep a product running as usage grows. Zirafah Zenith sets it up and scales it on AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud, aiming for predictable cost, recoverability, and a setup you can explain to an investor or a security reviewer. We start simple and add complexity only when load demands it.
What infrastructure needs at each stage
| Stage | Priority | Typical work |
|---|---|---|
| MVP and launch | Keep it simple and cheap, but recoverable | Managed services, one production environment, automated backups, cost alerts |
| Early growth | Safe releases and visibility | Separate staging and production, automated deployment, monitoring and alerts, autoscaling where needed |
| Scaling | Performance, stability, and cost control | Load testing, database scaling, caching, incident process, security review, cost optimisation |
Over-building early is a common and expensive mistake: complex container orchestration at MVP stage is usually premature. We add layers when measurements show the need.
Which provider?
AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud can all run a startup well. We recommend by fit: the services your product needs, what your team already knows, credits or programmes you may qualify for, and where your data should sit. We do not push one provider.
Where your data is stored
Data location affects both speed for Indonesian users and, depending on the data, legal obligations. AWS, for example, opened its Asia Pacific (Jakarta) Region on December 13, 2021, with three Availability Zones (AWS News Blog). Check each provider’s current region list. Which data may or must stay in Indonesia is a question for your legal adviser; we then design the architecture around the answer.
What we do
- Choose the provider and services that fit the product, and design the layout before building.
- Set up environments, networking, and access, with the cloud account owned by you.
- Configure automated backups and test that a restore actually works.
- Add monitoring and alerts, plus budgets and cost alerts so the bill is never a surprise.
- Apply security basics: least-privilege access, multi-factor authentication, secrets management, and patching.
- Migrate from shared hosting or another provider, with a rollback plan.
- Document the setup so it is understandable to a new engineer or a technical reviewer.
What is not included
- Guarantees of uptime beyond what the cloud provider itself commits to.
- Cloud provider charges, which are billed to you directly in your own account.
- Formal security certification or penetration testing; these can be scoped with a specialist.
- Round-the-clock monitoring and incident response, unless separately agreed in writing, including coverage hours.
From assessment to a documented setup
A staged way of working.
Assess
Understand the product, traffic, data, and constraints.
Design
Choose services and layout, and estimate running cost.
Build & migrate
Set up, test restores, and migrate with a rollback plan.
Hand over
Documentation, access, and agreed support.
What affects cost
Our fees depend on the number of environments, migration scope, and security and monitoring needs. Separately, the cloud bill depends on traffic, storage, and the services chosen, and we estimate it up front. See the Pricing page for general factors.
Frequently asked questions
Which cloud is best for a startup: AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud?
All three can run a startup well. The right one depends on the services your product needs, your team's experience, credits you may qualify for, and where your data should be stored.
When should we move off shared hosting?
When you need reliable backups, separate staging and production, scaling under load, or tighter access control. If outages, slow pages, or manual deployments are costing you customers, it is time.
How much will cloud hosting cost?
It depends on traffic, storage, and services. We estimate the monthly bill during design and set budget alerts so costs never come as a surprise.
Does Indonesia have local cloud regions?
AWS opened a Jakarta region in December 2021. Other providers also operate regions in or near Indonesia; check each provider's current list. Whether your data must stay in Indonesia is a question for your legal adviser.
Who owns the cloud account?
You do. We recommend the account is created under your own company, with multi-factor authentication, and we work within it.
Do you offer 24/7 monitoring?
Round-the-clock monitoring and incident response can be scoped as a separate agreement, with coverage hours written down. It is not part of a standard setup.
