FMCG and Retail: Managing Outlets, Visits and Promotion Programmes
In FMCG, advantage rarely comes from the product alone. It comes from how cleanly you execute across thousands of selling points.
Outlet data is the foundation
One outlet list with code, location, type, territory, supplying distributor and active status. A list full of duplicates makes every territory report meaningless. Clean this before anything else.
Sensible visit routes
Set visit frequency by outlet type, then build weekly routes. What needs recording on a visit is short: product availability, display, shelf price, estimated stock, and the order. See field sales and mobile CRM.
Promotions need evaluating, not just running
Record each programme with its period, participating outlets, mechanism and cost. Without this record, the year-end review becomes a debate of opinions. With it, you can compare sales before, during and after the programme by outlet group.
Connect it to distributors
Shipments to distributors are not the same as sales to consumers. That is covered in distributor and reseller management.
Four reports are usually enough
- Visits planned versus completed.
- Product availability by territory.
- Sales per outlet against the previous period.
- Promotion cost against the sales lift.
All can be brought together in Zoho Analytics.
