Zoho MCP: Connecting AI Assistants to Your Zoho Data
More people now ask business data questions straight to an AI assistant. The protocol behind it is called MCP, and Zoho supports it.
What MCP is
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that lets AI assistants use tools and data in other apps in a structured way. Instead of pasting data into a chat window, the assistant connects directly to the app. Zoho offers MCP connections for some of its apps. Coverage and setup change, so follow Zoho's official documentation.
Example uses
- "Show deals with no activity in 30 days."
- "Summarise this customer account before the meeting."
- "Draft a quote from the conversation notes."
We use connections like this ourselves to inspect and tidy Zoho configuration faster, always with human checks.
Risks to manage
- Access rights. The assistant acts as the user who connected it. Use an account with the least access possible.
- Actions that change data. Separate read access from write access, and ask for confirmation before deleting or mass-editing.
- Personal data. Understand where data goes and how the AI provider treats it. See the PDP law and your CRM.
Start with read-only
Connect first for questions and summaries. Once the team trusts the results, open write access for narrow tasks.
